ORIGIN STORY #2

STEVE BREWER, DIRECTOR OF INSTRUCTION, DUBSDREAD GOLF COURSE

Q: How were you introduced to the game of golf?

SB: I was introduced to golf through putt putt and miniature golf as a kid, I spent Wednesdays at a local spot during summers with friends. Despite my dad rarely playing, I practiced chipping in my backyard, navigating obstacles. At 17, I played my first full round, finding it uniquely challenging. Shifting focus from basketball, I made golf central in my life.

Q: When did you start at Dubsdread?

SB: This is my 15th season. I promised to work where I felt surrounded by great people and had a great experience every day. Someone suggested I apply here, and despite not knowing anyone, I did. After reopening, the demand was overwhelming. A month later, I applied for the director of instruction role, which I knew was my career path. Luckily, I got it, and here I am, 15 years later.

Q: What do you love most about the game?

SB: Well, for me, it's multi-layered. As a former competitive player and now a coach, I'm deeply involved in golf. What I appreciate most is its blend of routine and unpredictability. Every day brings a new score, new lessons, and new experiences with students. While the routine remains, the variety keeps it fresh. Golf offers the chance to enjoy and improve at something without feeling burdened by repetition, unlike work. So, it's the perfect balance of enjoyment and dedication that I cherish most.
